Walmer Resigns from Houston Board of Education

Houston County Board of Education member Tom Walmer will step down from his post.

Walmer is the current chairman and has served on the board for the past 11 years.

Schools spokeswoman Beth McLaughlin said Walmer announced his resignation at the board retreat last weekend.

She said Walmer told the board he is stepping down for personal reasons. The Flint Energies Appliance Center where he works is closing.

McLaughlin said Walmer plans to spend the time looking for work and focusing on his family.

She said Walmer will be honored for his service at Tuesday's 1 p.m. board meeting in Perry.
