The Clean Air Campaign is hosting a kindergarten through twelfth grade art contest.

Elementary school students can compete in a comic strip contest. Middle and high school students can compete in a video contest.

Winning art or videos will be featured on the Clean Air Campaign's website, social media accounts as well as in the campaign's printed materials. Donations will also be made to each winner's school science, environmental or art program.

The art contest is open to all Georgia students.

Interested teachers, parents and students are encouraged to visit CleanAirCampaign.org to learn about entry requirements and submission details. Art contest submissions must be postmarked by April 15.

A panel of judges will select first, second and third place, along with any honorable mentions. Winners will be announced during Air Quality Awareness Week: May 2-6, 2011.

Perry High School’s FFA Senior Meats Evaluation team earned the title of State Champion during the 2010-2011 State FFA Meats Evaluation Career Development Event. 

Team members are Michael Herren, Drew Rowell, Daniel Bergman, Myles Sowell and Jared Law, a Houston County Board of Education news release says.

The Meats Evaluation event develops skills needed for careers in the meat animal industry and students become more knowledgeable consumers of meat and meat animal products.  Participants take a written exam, identify retail cuts, and grade carcasses on quality and yield grade. 

John (Chip) Bridges, Program Manager, Agricultural Education for the Georgia Department of Education, commented “It is an awesome accomplishment when a student, teacher, school, and system are recognized as a State Champion. 

Feagin Mill Middle School (FMMS) has joined FundingFactory, a program to fundraise through recycling.  The program has enabled FMMS to purchase two slates to interact wirelessly with interactive whiteboards. 

FMMS has been ranked in the top six percent of schools and top 10 percent nationally regarding its recycling efforts.

The FundingFactory program recycles empty printer cartridges and cell phones in return for a check or redemption points toward purchases. 

FMMS sent in enough cartridges and phones to rank number 526 out of 9,593 schools for total qualifying items sent in for the past 12 months.  The school used the earnings to purchase two SMART AirLiners. 

FMMS Principal Dr. Jesse Davis encourages the public to recycle cell phones and ink cartridges by donating them to the school.
