“Today brings back a lot of great memories,” said Autry. “But the most important memory is that of members working together to create a lasting organization to meet their own needs.”

Houston County Faces Wildfire Threat

Houston County Faces Wildfire Threat

Forecasters warn the threat of wildfires is high across much of Georgia, and any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning for high fire danger from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today.

The warning covers North and Central Georgia, where winds are expected to gust up to 25 mph.

The "red flag" warning covers all of Central Georgia's counties. The warning says people should take care with outdoor fires and contact local authorities before burning.

13WMAZ meteorologist David Ernst says a measuring station at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport has gotten 7.92 inches of rain this year. That's more than 6 inches below normal and more than 4 inches less than last year.

He said Central Georgia has seen sustained wind speeds of 10 to 15 mph.

Forecasters say humidity will be low, helping to create potentially dangerous fire conditions.
