Royal Alpaca Challenge moves to Perry

The Royal Alpaca Challenge and Fiber Festival, sponsored by the Georgia Alpaca Association, will premiere the event on the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry this year.

The event will be November 7 and 8. The news release states people can talk to alpaca breeders, meet top alpacas in the country and shop vendors selling products made from alpaca fleece.

The hours will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Military challenge coming to Perry

The Green Beret Challenge is coming to Perry in February 2016 at the Guardians Center.

According to a news release from the Perry Sports Council, the challenge is ideal for adventure racing enthusiasts. The race will be February 20th and 21st.

 The release said it offers a series of military style challenges along an eight-mile course which requires participants to push, pull, carry, crawlo or climb their way to the finish line.

Four-person teams and individuals can compete.

Categories include all-male, co-ed and all female. Age groups in the individual competition will be from 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50+/

Shane's Rib Shack to celebrate summer with free ribs

(WXIA) -- Few foods say "summer" like baby back ribs, and Shane's Rib Shack wants to celebrate the change in seasons with free summertime food.

On Saturday, May 17, participating Shane's Rib Shack locations will give away a free half-rack of baby back ribs and a 20-ounce drink to the first 100 customers. The lucky diners will also receive rib giveaway T-shirts.

"Our fifth annual rib giveaway provides us the opportunity to say thank you to all of our loyal customers and fans who have made Shane's Rib Shack what it is today," chain founder and president Shane Thompson said in a release.

UGA extension releases cotton weed control guidelines

The Dooly County UGA extension has released programs for Controlling Glyphosate Resistant Palmer Amaranth in Cotton.

In a blog post, Jay Porter says it's important for "not just the present, but for the future of weed control in cotton."

Porter warns that not closely following the guidelines could prevent cotton growth in the future.
