Teacher Recruitment Fair Slated for Saturday

 

The Houston County School System will host its annual Teacher Recruitment Fair on March 2, 2013, at Veterans High School.  Teachers interested in employment with the system are invited to attend the job fair from 9:00 a.m. until noon

Candidates will register in the auditorium lobby by submitting a résumé.  Representatives from 38 schools will conduct screening interviews.

Tykes, Tots and Teens Consignment Sale Returns to Fairgrounds

The Tykes, Tots and Teens Consignment Sale returns to the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter next weekend. The sale takes place inside Heritage Hall.

The sale opens from February 22-24.

There will be items fro infants, kids, teens and expecting mothers. You'll find items like clothes, toys, books, strollers, high chairs, pack 'n' plays, bouncy seats, youth furniture and more.

The hours are:
Friday, Feb. 22: 9-8
Saturday, Feb. 23: 9-8
Sunday, Feb. 24: 9-6 (closed 1-2 p.m. for Dollar Dash preparations)

Sunday is 50 percent off day from 2-6 p.m.: any tag with a star or marked discount yes will be half price.

Dollar Dash: Sunday 2pm – 6pm, any tag with a large bold "D" or "Donate Yes" marked donate will be $1.

The Georgia National Rodeo returns to the Perry National Fairgrounds and Agricenter Thursday through Saturday.

Watch Georgians compete in bareback riding, barrel racing, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping and tie down roping.

Cowboys and cowgirls will hail from Aragon, Waycross, Greenville, Folkston, Norman Park, Tifton, Summerville, Claxton, Fort Valley, Lafayette, Dalton, Rome, Resaca, Ranger, Boston, and Lawrenceville.

Pigs and Wings BBQ Competition in Perry this Weekend

Pigs and Wings BBQ competition and Fly-In sponsored will be held at the Perry-Houston County Airport (Exit 138 of I-75) this weekend.

The festivities kick off Friday evening while the teams set up and prepare for a long night of cooking.

Teams from all over compete in the following categories: Brunswick Stew, Pork Loin, Pulled Pork, Ribs and more.

The song that spurred the craze is No. 10 on iTunes Gangnam Style is so last year: 2013's new dance craze is the Harlem Shake.

Westfield Students Nominated for Governors Honors Program

Westfield Students Nominated for Governors Honors Program

The Westfield School has recognized two students who have been selected as nominees for the 2013 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program:

Gehrig Broxton, a junior at Westfield, has been nominated in the area of Chemistry.   Gehrig is an Honors student and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Broxton.  He has received numerous academic awards and is a member of the Beta Club, Math Team, and Varsity Baseball team.

Elizabeth Bourque, a sophomore at Westfield, has been nominated in the area of Dance/Ballet.  Elizabeth is an Honors student and is a member of the Beta Club and Tri-Hi-Y Club.  She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brod Bourque.
