Students to Compete in District 6 Spelling Bee

The District Six Spelling Bee will take place on February 26 at Fort Valley State University.

The winner from the District Competition will go on to compete in the State Spelling Bee Competition at Georgia State University on March 18.

Sen. Tolleson Offers Mechanism to Fund Water Projects

Sen. Ross Tolleson (R-Perry) has introduced a bill that creates new options for financing water projects in communities throughout the state. 

That is according to a Senate Press Office news release.

The Georgia Public/Private Water Supply Act of 2011 (Senate Bill 122) will allow state and local governments to voluntarily partner with private investors on the construction of reservoirs and other water infrastructure projects.

Local Children Selected for Touring 'Wizard of Oz' Show

The National Tour of “The Wizard of Oz” announced that 12 children from Central Georgia will perform the roles of munchkins in Macon showings of the beloved classic live on stage.

“The Wizard of Oz” will be performing at The Grand Opera House March 15-16 at 7:30 p.m. in downtown Macon.

That is according to a Grand Opera House news release

Macon dance studio Academy of the Performing Arts auditioned, selected and will prepare all 12 munchkins for their choreographed songs and dances in the production. The children will have the opportunity to dance alongside a nationally touring Broadway company and learn valuable, real-world skills while having fun. Owners Sylvia Haynie and Laura Voss, both with 30 years’ experience, are excited to be a part of this production.

Made 2 B More Hosts Computer Class

Made 2 B More will host a class that will give an overview of the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access and Power Point.

The class will be held from February 22 from 1 until 3:30 p.m.

Each student will learn the ins/outs for each Suite.

Space is limited. The fee for the class is $10.

The class will be given at 736 Carroll St., Suite 6 in Perry.

Parks & Rec. Hosts Family Game Night

Perry Parks & Recreation will host a family game night February 25.

Games will include monopoly, chess, spades, checkers and Twister.

The event starts at 7 p.m.

Light refreshments will be on hand.

Crossroad Quilt Guild Hosts Inaugural Quilt Show

Crossroads Quilt Guild will debut a quilt show at the Perry Arts Center in March.

90 quilts will be on display and for sale at the show.

The event will take place from Friday, March 11 through Monday, March 14.

Admission is $6 and children under 12 are free.

A quilt will be raffled off in a drawing.

Hours of the show will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Monday with hours from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Houston & Perry Arts Hosts 'Art of Chocolate"

The Houston Arts Alliance and Perry Arts Center host their annual event of art, food and an auction at Art of Chocolate Saturday, February 12.

The event takes place at Perry Arts Center from 7 to 11 p.m.

Sample chocolates, bid on items in the silent auction and dance to music by the Georgia Big Band.

Tickets are $25 per person.
