Perry Board Office to Host School Oratorical Contest

The 5th Grade FOCUS Oratorical Contest will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at the Perry Board office at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. 

Eighteen fifth-graders representing all elementary schools will each give a two-minute speech on the topic, “If I Were Leader of the Free World, the First Issue I Would Address Would be ... " 

The school representative is selected by a panel of judges at the school level.

Three judges that will include high school debate coaches and a counselor, will select the top three speakers by using a rubric. The winners will be given a cash award: with first place winning $25, second place $15 and third place $10.  Winners will also be invited to perform at a future Board meeting.  All orators will receive a certificate of participation.

Westfield School to Perform Christmas Concerts

The Westfield School Middle and Upper School Choruses, under the direction of Mrs. Shelley Sanderson, will perform a Christmas Concert on Saturday, Dec. 11th at 7 p.m. in the school's Recital Hall.

On Sunday, December 12th at 3 p.m. the Fifth and Sixth Grade Choruses, under the direction of Mrs. Deborah Walker and Mrs. Shelley Sanderson and accompanied by Mrs. Marilyn Hooten, will present a Christmas Concert.

The community is invited to attend. There is no charge for admission.

Pre-K through 12th Grade to Perform at The Westfield School

Students from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade at The Westfield School, along with faculty and staff, will join together on Friday, Dec. 10th at 2:30 p.m. for a special Christmas program to present gifts to Perry Volunteer Outreach (PVO)  for 100 children of needy families in the Perry community through KidsGive. 

KidsGive is a special partnership between Westfield and PVO that began in 2008.  The program will be held in the school's Gymnatorium.  For more information, call Mary Jane Kinnas at The Westfield School, 478-987-0547 ext. 223.

Three Schools to Perform at Governor's Mansion

Three Schools to Perform at Governor's Mansion

Three local schools have been selected to perform at the Governor’s mansion this month.

Morningside Elementary, Bonaire Middle and Warner Robins High will each perform at the Governor's Mansion. 

Schools from across the state are annually invited to perform for anyone touring the mansion. The December Holiday Celebration showcases instrumental and choral ensembles.  Selection is highly competitive because space is limited.  Only 48 time slots are available, which are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Houston County’s schools are scheduled to perform in the Governor’s mansion ballroom as follows:

Bonaire Middle – Dec. 10, 11:15 a.m. – 1:00 p.m

Warner Robins High – Dec. 13, 9:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.

Morningside Elementary- Dec. 16, 9:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.


Holiday Storytime at the Library with Santa's Elves

Storytime at the Library is scheduled to take place at 11:30 a.m.

Children will be able to hear “Who’s That Knocking on Christmas Eve?” and “Night Before Christmas” read by one of Santa’s elves.

The library is located at 1201 Washington St.


Church to Host Christmas Cantata and Drama

"O Holy Night" will be presented on Sunday, Dec. 12 during the 10:55 a.m. morning worship service at Second Memorial Baptist Church.

Under the direction of Minister of Music Mike Curtis, the Worship Choir and Drama Team will present the program.

A nursery will be provided for children, birth through age 4.
