1st Annual Perry Auto Fest and Swap Meet

On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12 and 13, the Perry Auto Fest and Swap Meet will be held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter. Vendor gates open at 7 a.m. Spectator gates open at 8 a.m. Admission is $5 each day, and children 12 years and under are free.

Antique parts, collectables, tools, cars and trucks will be for sale.

Spectators can enter at the fairgrounds' West Gate.

Perry Arts Center Hosts Veterans Day Program

The Perry Arts Center will host a Veterans Day service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11. 

Mayor Jimmy Faircloth will give the welcome speech and the keynote speaker is Reverend Hughes.

9:00 a.m. Kicks off with Purple Pancake Breakfast

Complete with "create your own toppings" buffet, hot coffee and juice.

9:45 a.m. Walk Warm-up with a professional exercise instructor.

10 a.m. Walk Festivities

11:30 a.m. Awards Presentation & Closing Ceremony

Top fundraisers will be recognized.

In addition to the walk, music, refreshments, family fun activities and informational exhibits will be available.

Veterans Day 5K Race

Houston County 4-H is sponsoring a Veteran's Day 4-H 5K Race at The Georgia Agricenter and National Fairgrounds in Perry, Ga. on Thursday Nov. 11, 2010.

Entrance will be at the North Gate and registration will be at the clock tower at 2:45 p.m. The race will begin at 4:15 p.m. The race will occur around the perimeter of the grounds on pavement.

The race day registration fee is $20 for 4-H’ers and $25 for other runners. All proceeds will go to support 4-H and Houston County 4-H receives proceeds for every Houston County resident who registers.

T-Shirts will be provided for registered runners on race day while supplies last. For more information, contact the Houston County 4-H office at (478) 987-2028.

2nd Annual Central Georgia Regional Health Summit

Community Health Works (CHW) will be holding the 2nd Annual Central Georgia Regional Health Summit on Nov. 9 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds (Miller-Murphy-Howard Building) in Perry, GA. Register at www.cgrhs.org. This is an all-day event, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m.

In October of 2009, CHW convened more than 100 community leaders representing the top minds in health care and health policy, local government, local school districts, faith-based and civic organizations from across 7 counties in central Georgia (Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jones, Monroe, Peach, and Twiggs). 

The purpose of the summit is to discuss the impact that unhealthy behaviors have on our community with a primary focus on the prevalence of obesity and related chronic diseases, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease. 

Museum of Aviation Holds Poster Contest

The Museum of Aviation Education Department is inviting 4th graders to submit an entry in the 8th Annual Skyscapes Poster Contest.  This year’s theme is “What Can You Do With Red, White and Blue?” in honor of the American Flag’s Colors.  

Individual entries must be delivered to the Education Department by Nov. 5, and judging will take place on Nov. 9.  Entries will be judged on artistic talent and creativity in representing the theme.  Posters will be judged by the Robins Air Force Base Officer’s Spouses’ Club and other community leaders. The top 7 winners will receive prizes, and their artwork will be on display in the Century of Flight Hangar for a year following the contest.
