Muse Theatre Foundation Holding Golf Fundraiser | Families
Perry Georgia's Muse Theatre was once the city's main attraction.
It's been a while since the movie house projected films on the silver screen. The Muse closed its doors in the 1980's.
"That's where you went on Saturdays," said Muse Theatre Foundation board member Jon Pierce. "After you ate lunch, you rode your bike or your parents carried you to the theatre."
It had all the box office hits.
"Always saw 'James Bond' movies there. 'Gone With the Wind.' You name it. The old classics.
Those days are over. After 30 years of business, the theatre closed its doors in the 1980's. Perry's Muse Theatre Foundation is raising funds to get projectors rolling again.
"It's a real treasure in Perry, we're just hoping we can bring it back to life," said foundation president Billy Milby.
The non-profit's first fundraiser event is a golf tournament in September.
"We've got about seven or eight teams right now. We're looking to have close to 30."
The first part of the plan is to put the foundation's name on the theatre.
"Our initial goal is to raise $120,000 in order to officially own the building in the foundation's name," said Milby.
The building is currently owned in the name of Marty Myers. His Antique Theatre store is holding it down until the foundation can make a purchase. Once that happens, Millby can ask for help from bigger pockets.
He hopes that will be enough to get projectors running, and kernels popping.
"After that, we're gonna be able to seek larger grants from federal and state government, and also private grants to raise the rest of the money," said Milby.
Until then, the foundation will get help from drives, chips, and putts.
"If you're a golfer please come out. We need golfers, we need people getting behind this thing," said Pierce.
The Muse Theatre Foundations' fundraiser will take place on Thursday, September 19th, at the Houston Lake Country Club.
The first tee time will be at one pm.
