Westfield students recognized as national AP scholars

Twenty-one students at The Westfield School earned Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams.

Two students, Peyton Marshall and Valerie McLure, qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Trey Spillers qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Wendy's has big plans to return to its salad days.

On Tuesday, the burger chain will announce the March 17 national rollout of two new menu items to its salad lineup: an Asian Cashew Chicken Salad and a BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad. Also, Wendy's will announce plans to add more fresh veggies — cucumbers and red peppers — to its spiffed-up side salads,

Burger King is tweaking its Kid's Meals with fries that are less nutritionally naughty.

The burger giant Tuesday announced that its crinkle-cut Satisfries -- with 40% less fat and 30% fewer calories than McDonald's fries -- will immediately become the standard fries served in Burger King Kid's Meals nationally. Although BK charges slightly more for Satisfries with adult meals, it will not charge more for its Kid's Meals.

Lindsey Elementary and Pearl Stephens Elementary have openings for Pre-Kindergarten students.  The positions will be filled out of zone on a first-come, first-served basis for those not already enrolled in a Bright from the Start Pre-K program.  There are two openings at each school.  

Pre-K students must be four years old on or before September 1.  Only a parent or legal guardian may register a child.  Registration is at the Central Registration office, which is open 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Pre-K registration requires the following items:

·         Parent/Guardian Photo ID

·         Certified Birth Certificate

·         Guardianship/Custody Orders if the child does not live with his natural parents
