(WXIA) -- Coffee and donuts are a great way to start the day -- but what if the two breakfast staples were combined?

Krispy Kreme is now offering two coffee-inspired donuts at participating stores through Sunday, Mar. 30.

Ice storm brings power outages

Georgia utility companies say more than 177,000 customers were without power as ice coated trees brought branches and power lines down.

Georgia Power reported that more than 104,000 customers were without power shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday.

More than 71,000 of them were in metro Atlanta. Another 29,000 customers were in eastern Georgia; and 1,340 were without power in parts of west Georgia.

We are continuing to move quickly in Atlanta as the Georgia General Assembly moved through day 19 of the legislative session.  This week, bills continued to move through the legislative process, the Senate took up the amended budget and multiple special guests made visits to the Capitol. 

On Monday President of the Brunswick Golden Isles Chamber M.H. “Woody” Woodside and members of the Chamber visited the Capitol.  As the Jekyll Island bill continues to move through the legislative process, this group remains a contributor to the ongoing discussions regarding conservation.

HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – The Perry and Robins Regional and Chambers of Commerce will host the annual Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) Student and STAR Teacher recognition program on Feb. 5, 2014, at 5:30 p.m.  The program and reception will be at Central Georgia Technical College in Building A’s auditorium. During the program, STAR students and their teachers will be recognized, and the district winner will be announced for the first time. 

 

The 2014 STAR Students and Teachers from the Houston County School System are:

  • Houston County High:  Willa M. Wang and teacher Sherin Hinnant;
  •  Northside High:  Hunter Riley Craft and teacher Patricia Ogletree;
  • Perry High:  Jacob Allen Turner and teacher Debra Anderson;
  • Veterans High:  Emily Megan Deyton and teacher Jeremy William
  • Warner Robins High:  Brendan Kennedy and teacher Louis Leskosky.

Robins Air Force Base closed for non-mission essential employees

Robins Air Force Base will be closed Tuesday for non-mission essential employees due the winter weather expected in the area. That's according to a post on the base's official Facebook page.

The post says Installation Commander, Col. Chris Hill said the decision to close the base was a collaborative effort involving numerous installation agencies.

Employees will be notified by their chain of command of closures, delayed reporting times or early releases.
