Public Invited to Mental Health Awareness Event

(Warner Robins, Georgia)  A Mental Health Awareness Event will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011, from 10:00 am to 1:00 p.m. at the Galleria Conference Center in Warner Robins, Georgia. The public is invited to attend.  The event is family-driven and will focus on the risk factors of suicide. Our goal is to increase awareness of the value of community-based mental health services available in Houston, Peach and Crawford County.

This event is hosted by the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Central Georgia (SPCCG) whose mission is to provide education, resources, and support for individuals at risk of suicide, survivors of suicide and their families. Program topics will include statistics in our area, signs of suicide, the effects of bullying, depression, and ways to help. Those personally touched by suicide will also share their stories. Exhibitors will provide resources to help families cope with depression and suicidal ideations, and offer support for families that have lost a loved one to suicide.

The coalition is a partnership between many organizations in Houston, Peach and Crawford Counties. Participants include: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, New Hope International, Christian Fellowship Church, Community Health Works, Crawford County Sherriff’s Office, Fort Valley State University, Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Development Disabilities, Suicide Prevention Action Network - GA, HODAC, Houston County Board of Education, Houston Healthcare, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Phoenix Center Behavioral Health Services, Robins Air Force Base, and Warner Robins Police Department.

The Galleria Conference Center is located at the Galleria Mall (Formerly Goodys). For more information, contact James Singleton, Executive Director of the Phoenix Center, at (478) 988-1002, extension 115, or jamessingleton@phoenixcenterbhs.com.
