Public Invited to Mental Health Awareness Event

(Warner Robins, Georgia)  A Mental Health Awareness Event will be held Saturday, April 9, 2011, from 10:00 am to 1:00 p.m. at the Galleria Conference Center in Warner Robins, Georgia. The public is invited to attend.  The event is family-driven and will focus on the risk factors of suicide. Our goal is to increase awareness of the value of community-based mental health services available in Houston, Peach and Crawford County.

Sen. Tolleson Offers Mechanism to Fund Water Projects

Sen. Ross Tolleson (R-Perry) has introduced a bill that creates new options for financing water projects in communities throughout the state. 

That is according to a Senate Press Office news release.

The Georgia Public/Private Water Supply Act of 2011 (Senate Bill 122) will allow state and local governments to voluntarily partner with private investors on the construction of reservoirs and other water infrastructure projects.

Perry Chiropractic Health Center Hosts Annual 'Doctors with a Heart'

Perry Chiropractic Health Center (PCHC) will host its annual Doctors with a Heart Day February 15.

On this day, PCHC will give away its services in exchange for non-perishable food items for "Loaves and Fishes."

Loaves and Fishes is a local program that can provide food to families in time of need.

In a news release, Dr. Brian Gillis of PCHS recommends that people schedule spinal evaluations for February 15.

Chamber Names Business of the Year

Perry Chiropractic Health Center was awarded “Business of the Year” for 2010 by the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce. 

Perry Chiropractic Health Center has seven chiropractic assistants, a massage therapist and four chiropractic physicians dedicated to providing the best health care possible.

According to a Perry Chiropractic Health Center news release, Dr. Greg Wheeler, new to the team, moved from his practice in Atlanta.  We are excited to have him on our team.  Dr. Wheeler specializes in disc problems, sciatica and migraines.

Scoliosis Screening Offered at Houston County Middle Schools

Scoliosis Screening Offered at Houston County Middle Schools

The Houston County Board of Education is offering free Scoliosis screenings for all middle school students Jan. 25 – 27, 2011, and Feb. 1, 2011. 

The screening will be offered to all sixth and eighth graders in cooperation with the Houston County Health Department. 

For the screening, students should wear undergarments and single layers of comfortable clothing such as a t-shirt.  Parents will be notified only if a child does not pass the screening. 

 Scoliosis is a physical condition characterized by an abnormal curvature of the spine.  Most cases of scoliosis are mild but severe cases can be disabling.  Scoliosis affects two to three percent of the population - about 6 million people in the U. S.  The primary age for the onset of scoliosis is 10 to 15 years of age, when rapid growth is occurring or just before puberty. 

Lake Joy Primary School Jump Rope Team Hosts Pajama Drive

Lake Joy Primary School's Lil’ Leapin’ Lions jump rope team is having a blanket and pajama drive to benefit the children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The school is collecting new pajamas, blankets, knit caps and slipper socks through Wednesday, Dec. 15. Send in any of the items listed above for the patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
