Perry Country Club gets new owner | News
There's new ownership for the city of Perry's Country Club and a fresh name to go along with it.
Marty Myers is no stranger when it comes to owning a business. "I'm in the construction business, that's my main stay but we've gotten into the antique business, builder supply, the coffee cup which is a little coffee and sandwich shop in Perry," says Myers.
Now he's added owner of the Perry Country Club to the list. "Our new name is going to be Cherokee Pines Golf and Fitness Club," explains Myers.
He plans to build a 24 hour access gym and a fitness trail around the golf course. He's also starting a junior golf program.
"We're looking to start that program and help those students who want to further their game, not just at the high school level but at the collegiate level and at a potentially tour level," explains Stephanie Griffin.
Griffin and her husband Scott Griffin used to work at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Florida, a stop on the PGA tour. Now they're bringing their skills to Perry and will oversee this course.
"The course has kind of been neglected in some areas. Basically we want to get the conditions back to a pristine. I have an eighteen month goal that I've put on myself that I want this to be one of the nicest courses in all of Houston County," says Scott Griffin.
Myers is bringing the flavor from his restaurant the 19th hole, a pit stop for snacks near the course.
"We'll have the coffee and sandwiches and smoothies a lot of the same things we have at the downtown Perry location." explains Myers.
He's also looking for a chef to serve dinner at the club Thursday through Saturday nights.
He says his experience in the construction business will help him tee off on the renovations.
And if you're wondering how Myers came up with the club's new name, there are two roads that surround the golf course: Cherokee Road and Idle Pines Drive. If you put the two together you get Cherokee Pines Golf and Fitness Club.
