4-H horse show comes to Perry | News
Hope Nelson is 15 years old and has been coming to the Georgia 4-H Horse Show since 1st grade.
The Georgia 4-H State Horse Show started Wednesday, and will continue until Saturday
"I've showed horses all my life, and it's a lot of fun. It challenges me to do better at each show. I like competing and making new friends," Nelson said.
She and her horse, Silkie, won a division last year, despite Silkie missing one eye.
"We won the junior ranch horse division last year and this year we moved up to the senior division, so maybe we'll move up to regionals," Nelson said.
Nine-year-old Hannah Duncan is competing in the state show for the third time.
"I usually compete about 5 times a year," she said.
Duncan came all the way from Newnan and is the only child in her age group from Coweta County that made it to the show.
Her horse's name is Calypso.
"She can be really gentle with her ears, because if you make certain noises, she'll really jerk up," she said, "She has smiley faces and dots so that's kind of special about her."
During the week, the riders will take classes until the contest event finals this Saturday.
