Perry packed with weekend events
News

A lot is happening this weekend at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry. Comic-Con, The southeast rodeo and the Royal Alpaca Challenge.

Jay Reeder with the Georgia Alpaca Association says there's something in store for everyone at the Royal Alpaca Challenge. "An alpaca show that includes not only the showing of the alpacas for confirmation, fiber, and that kind of thing, but also plenty of activities for the family," said Reeder.

Owners from all around the country gather at the Georgia National Fairgrounds to put their furry friends on display. "The body style, how are they built, how's their frame built, they're going to check their fiber. How soft it is and how dense it is, and then they look at color and stuff like that, so it's a typical livestock show,: said Reeder.

From alpacas to horses, the Southeastern Rodeo is in town. 16-year-old Kyra Lombardo is competing to win the high school showdown.
"It's a lot of pressure to win in the first place so when you do win, it's a lot of weight off your shoulders, it's a big relief and it feels great," said Lombardo.

Gracie Griffin is also hitting the arena with her horse hoping to win that blue ribbon."His name is Padre. We got him about a year ago, and he has done really good. He goat ties and team ropes," said Griffin.

And last but not least, Perry Comic-Con. "T-shirts, toys, action figures, sketchings, art, anything from pop culture you can think of, 50% chance it'll be here," said Mario Russo, president of Perry Comic-Con.

You might run into a few familiar faces like extras from the TV show, The Walking Dead, and even a former Power Ranger, Dan Southworth. "You play super heroes when you're a little boy. You don't actually think you'll become one. It's still kind of an experience to have done that and be where I am now and walk through life. Every once in a while, I'll run into a fan," said Southworth.

There's a little something for everyone happening at the Fairgrounds. You can catch all of these events on Saturday and Sunday.

The Royal Alpaca Challenge and the rodeo is free on Saturday and Sunday, and single day tickets for Comic-Con will cost you about $10.
