Perry City Council, Mayor Visit Senator Tolleson

Perry City Council, Mayor Visit Senator Tolleson

By State Senator Ross Tolleson

This week, I was pleased to welcome Mayor Jimmy Faircloth and members of the Perry City Council to the State Capitol. Representative Larry O'Neal and I were able to meet with this prestigious group while they were in Atlanta for the Georgia Municipal Association meeting. It is always a pleasure to have local leaders and citizens come to the Capitol.  I welcome the touch of home it brings and the reminder that everyday I open my office door I am here to do the business of the people of the 20th district.

ATLANTA (January 20, 2012) – This week the Georgia General Assembly recessed in order to review Governor Deal’s proposed budget. As required by our state constitution, we must pass a balanced budget that does not allow for any deficit spending.  Over the past few days, members of the Georgia General Assembly have listened to brief overviews from various state agencies. This testimony supplements our line by line review of the proposed budget.

ATLANTA (Friday 13, 2012) On Monday legislators from across the state filled the Senate and House Chambers excited to begin another historic year for Georgia. Throughout the past year we have made great strides toward economic recovery for our state. We have brought jobs to Georgia, lowered the unemployment rate and addressed the looming water issues that face our state. However, much is left to be accomplished. Georgia’s education system still lags behind the majority of other states in our nation, and our economy has not yet fully recovered. This session will be crucial as we continue to take necessary steps toward putting our state on the right path.

On the first day of the 2012 Legislative Session, we passed the following bills: a clear message that education reform is vital to our success as Georgians.
