"Bookmobile" Drives Home Summer Reading

"Bookmobile" Drives Home Summer Reading

A group of Houston County teachers hit the road Monday to show their students you don't have to be in the classroom to enjoy a good book.

The Houston County Bookmobile visited three Centerville neighborhoods to try to drive home the importance of reading.

The fifteen-passenger van is chock full of donated books that the kids can check out and then return the next week for new ones.

Centerville Elementary School Principal Tonya Maddox says the program aims to keep students from hitting a summer slump.

"We wanted to provide an opportunity for students to read over the summer because we know that students aren't as likely to read every day during the summertime over their break and sometimes that affects their reading ability," said Maddox.

Fourth grade graduate Kavin Howard doesn't need the benefits of reading spelled out for him.
