Organizing Fall Fling Day 28: Excuses

Organizing Fall Fling Day 28: Excuses

Fling those excuses. I’m waiting for the right time to reorganize my closet. I can’t do my taxes because I hate doing my taxes. Take the project, break it down into small do-able steps and then schedule those steps on your calendar. Take it one step at a time and get through it! If you need help, ask for it.

Organizing Fall Fling Day 27: DVDs

Organizing Fall Fling Day 27: DVDs

Gather all of your DVDs into one spot. Fling any that you don’t love or that you really don’t want watch again. If you’ve bought the movies recently, you may be eligible for a digital copy that will allow you to get rid of the disk and case, or at least keep them in an out of the way place like a high closet shelf.  Libraries love to get DVDs to add to their collection or to sell in their used book sales. So fling away!

Organizing Fall Fling Day 22: Wrapping Paper

Organizing Fall Fling Day 22: Wrapping Paper

Gather all of your wrapping supplies into one place and take stock of what you have. Pull out anything that is dated, faded or wrinkled and recycle it. Do you have lots of wrapping paper but only use gift bags? Consider donating those rolls. Cull down to a reasonable about of supplies that will fit in an under the bed box, a drawer or a shelf.

Organizing Fall Fling: Day 19 - Medications

Organizing Fall Fling: Day 19 - Medications

Medicine can make you better but it can also make you sick. Pull all of your medicine out of your medicine cabinet and start checking expiration dates. Get rid of anything that is out of date. Here are some guidelines for safe drug disposal from the FDA.

If you need to toss something you like to have on hand, such as aspirin or antacids, start a shopping list so you remember what you need to buy. As you place your keepers back in the cabinet, group like items together (stomach items, pain relievers, etc) for easier time finding what you need when you need it.

Organizing Fall Fling: Day 18 - Fall Decorations

Organizing Fall Fling: Day 18 - Fall Decorations

I love to see all of Fall decorations this time of year. If you love to decorate for Fall and Halloween, now is a great time to pare down your decorations.

An easy way to do this is to do your decorating and then see what you left. If items are broken, discolored, outdated or you just don’t love, let them go. Just keep the things that you adore and that make you happy!  By the way, this is a good process to go through at every holiday.

Fall Fling Day 16: Glove Compartment

Fall Fling Day 16: Glove Compartment

Grab a trash bag and head out to your car. Pull everything out of the glove compartment or, in my case, your console. Empty out the trash, get rid of the 100 extra pens and napkins and only put back the things you really need.

You spend so much time in your car, make it a great place to be.

Organizing Fall Fling: The Purse

Organizing Fall Fling: The Purse

Ladies, it's time to tackle your purse. I know it may seem like a black hole but you can do it.

Go ahead and take everything out of your purse. Then take your purse to the trash can and shake out all the crumbs (Why does it look like I had a 4-course meal in my purse?) and other small trash particles. You can even clean the inside and outside with a wipe depending on the material. Toss the crumpled McDonalds receipts and shredded tissues.

Give your child back his hot wheels car and her hair bows. Make sure you still use any makeup you keep here.  Take time to go through your wallet too. Let's make it a fresh start.

Use your critical eye to what goes back into your purse. Heavy purses can cause back and neck issues (trust me, I know!) so keep it as minimal as you can. You can even get a purse organizer (like these) to keep things in order.

A man's home may be his castle but a women's purse is her lifeline so treat it with care!
