Museum Hosts STEM Day: Engineers & Scientists Work with Youth

The Museum of Aviation is planning a Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Day for kids in Grades 1-5 on Saturday, August 13. Students will have the opportunity to work with real scientists and engineers from the Middle Georgia Community to make a solar powered robot, build a bridge or skyscraper and just have fun with “Cool Challenges.”

That's according to a Museum of Aviation news release.

The Georgia Kids’ STEM Day will be held in the Museum’s Century of Flight Hangar from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM and includes lunch and activity supplies. The cost to attend is $35.

License Plate Revote Opens Monday

ATLANTA (AP) -- The public is again invited to weigh in on Georgia's new license plate design.

Online voting will reopen at 3 p.m. Monday.

Gov. Nathan Deal had planned to announce the winner of an earlier design contest last Friday, but the state scrapped its plans over public confusion on whether the motto "In God We Trust" would be on the plate.

"Dungeon Dan" Appears at Museum's Pirate Camp

“Dungeon Dan”, otherwise known as Dan Hart, the volunteer coordinator at the Museum of Aviation, will appear in full pirate garb this Friday, July 15, for pre-schoolers attending the Museum’s Pirate Camp.

That's according to a aMuseum of Aviation news release.

A member of several pirate “crews,” he and his wife Kathy Hart (Kruel Kathy) are true pirate lovers and participate in parades and festivals in the Tampa Bay Florida area where Dan is from and in Valdosta and Atlanta as well.

Dan has been interested in pirates ever since his dad took him to the pirate parades in Tampa as a kid.  His costume is genuine “theater grade” according to Dan “that you can’t buy at Wal-Mart.”  The former Chief of Police of Warner Robins from 1993 to 2003, Dan has been taking care of approximately 100 volunteers at the Museum of Aviation since 2004.  Kathy is the director of HODAC in Warner Robins.
