Semi-Annual Mossy Creek Festival

The Semi-Annual Mossy Creek Barnyard Festivalis scheduled to take place on April 16-17, 2011.

Handmade crafts from 26 states will be on site.

It is located 6 miles East of Interstate 75, in deep piney woods near Perry & Warner Robins.

Mossy Creek Barnyard Festival was named one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast, and also one of the Top 100 Events in North America.

According to the festival website, the event was also voted "Favorite Arts and Crafts Festival in Georgia."


Perry High Choir Selected to Perform in Chicago

The Perry High School Symphonic Band has been selected to perform in the 2nd annual Percy Grainger Wind Band Festival March 24-27, 2011, in Chicago, Ill. 

Perry High is one of only three bands selected from across the entire U.S.  The other honorees are from Alabama and California. 

Bands auditioned by submitting a recording of a band performance. 

Superintendent Dr. Robin Hines said, “Congratulations to Perry High!  We are proud to have our band represent not only the city of Perry and our school system, but also the state of Georgia.  Anyone who has followed the Perry instrumental music program the last few years knows the outstanding quality of this program.  This is a well-deserved honor.”

The Museum of Aviation Foundation recently welcomed eight new members to its Board of Directors for 2011.

Perry Belly Dance to perform at Macon Cherry Blossom Festival

Perry Belly Dance will be featured at 3 performances next week at the Macon Cherry Blossom Festival.

Perry Belly Dance, along with the professional dance troupe kabilaht a janub, will appear live on stage on Friday March 18th at 2pm, Saturday March 26th at 3pm and Sunday March 27th at noon.

The belly dance troupe is typically booked for one show, but they have recently become fan favorites in Middle Georgia after their appearance at the GA National Fair last October.

HCBOE Names 17 Outstanding Women in Education

Seventeen women from the Houston County Board of Education will be honored Saturday, March 5, 2011, as recipients of the Outstanding Women in Education award. 

They will be recognized during the “It’s Time!” Unity Conference.  The conference will be held in the Century of Flight building at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

The honorees will be presented awards from 2:00 p.m. to 2:35 p.m. and also recognized at a reception from 2:40 to 3:30 p.m.  Special guests include First Lady Sandra Deal and Becky Scott.   

 A total of 30 honorees were selected from across Georgia with nominees coming from not only Houston, but also Baldwin, Bibb, DeKalb, Fulton, Henry, Lowndes, Newton, Peach and Twiggs.

For the 23rd Annual Dogwood Festival, vendor applications are now being accepted.

The Dogwood Festival is scheduled for April 9-10, 2011.

Perry Idol Finale Scheduled

Perry Idol Finale Scheduled

The Perry Idol Finale will be held Saturday, March 19th, 6:00pm at the River Church in Kathleen Ga.

Tickets will be sold at the Perry Chamber in advance $7 for Adults, $3 for Children.

Cost the night of the event will be $10 for Adults, $5 for children. Call (478) 987-1234 for details.

In the Adult Category (Ages 15 and up) are: Aveon Williams, Ben Robbins, Chad Davis, Dawn Weaks, Gina Hodges, Jessica Davis, Jill Davis, Kerrence Thomas, Mikanell Rodriguez, Morgan James, Sam Fisher and Wesley Willis, Jr. The two alternates that were chosen were Samantha Bartlette and Taylor Dixon.

In the Jr. Category (Ages 7 to 14) are: Abbigail Fisher, Cassy Chaney, Evelyn Jones, Grace Thomas, Hannah Hunt, J'Quan E. Gulley, Katherine Weaks, Olivia Kessel, Rylee Crouch, Tiffany Morgan, Tristen Sledge and Valerie Davis. The two alternates that were chosen were DeLaine Crutchfield and Taylor Garrison.

Auditions were held in February.
