The Great Outdoors Show opens in Perry

For an adventure in the great outdoors, hunting and fishing enthusiasts can head inside this weekend at the Georgia National Fairgrounds.

13WMAZ got a firsthand glimpse of the outdoor experience Friday.

The three-day long Great Outdoor Show reeled them in at the Georgia National Fairgrounds with more than 100 vendors.

Todd Holbrook with the Georgia Wildlife Federation said it's a good opportunity for the young and old to become outdoorsmen.

"They're going to interact with vendors who are providing equipment to make it very easy for them to take up hunting or fishing or to perfect the arts, and it's going to be an opportunity for people to have fun," Holbrook said.

That includes plenty of fun for even the smallest of nature lovers.

"There's going to be a kids' cove, and if you've got a youngster that really needs exposure to the outdoors, the kids' cove is a great place to start," he added.

There was even a reptile show, but what Holbrook says is even more important than getting up close and personal with baby alligators is connecting with the world around you.

"Recreation is key," he said. "It's important to get people out, let them understand, help them understand that it's not really all that complicated."
